Placebo take European Billboard Chart By Storm in at No.1
Number 1 In 9 Countries and Top 5 In 19
Career best US and Japan Chart Positions
Placebo have stormed the charts across Europe and in major territories worldwide with the release of their latest record Battle for the Sun.
The album entered the charts at number one in nine countries – including a first ever number one in Germany – and top fives in a nineteen countries.
Significantly though, the band have had their first ever Billboard Top 100 placing in the US at No.51, as the album shifted a record number of units in North America, selling more in their first week than the last album, Meds, sold in its first two weeks of release.
The success comes after an innovative pre-release and fan-driven digital campaign. The highlights of which saw the band offer the fanbase free track downloads and culminated in the world wide album premiere which focused on giving over 150,000 fans access to the new record before release through the bands website Placeboworld.co.uk, and was a major factor in the album not leaking upfront of release.
The result speaks for itself, with Battle for the Sun out-performing all previous chart positions in Placebo’s 13-year history.
And, to make the result even sweeter, the record is released by the band themselves, with Vagrant chosen to be their US (and Canadian) partners for structured campaign architecture and marketing for the new record across the US.
Placebo also this week announced they will headline the iTunes Festival in London, UK, on July 14th. This, along with 25 European festival appearances this summer and a huge arena tour locked in for later in the year further proves another giant step forwards in the bands career, culminating in The O2 Arena in London in December

PROTEST THE HERO MEMBER GOING TO ALASKA TO COMPETE IN THE WORLD BEARD & MOUSTACHE CHAMPIONSHIP
Raising Money For Locks of Love
May 20, 2009 – Tim Millar’s big day has finally arrived. Millar, guitarist of Canadian metal powerhouse Protest The Hero, has been growing his beard for three years in hopes of competing in the 2009 World Beard and Moustache Championships. This Saturday, May 23, the Championships will be held in Anchorage, Alaska and Millar will be competing in the “Alaskan Whaler” category.
A film crew will be accompanying Tim as he and Beard Team Canada compete for the first time in this global event. Fans can log on to http://www.beardteamcanada.bigcartel.com/ to support the team and more information about the competition can be found at http://www.worldbeardchampionships.com/
Although Tim recently ranked #19 in Metal Hammer Magazine’s “Best Beards in Metal” feature: http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/21-best-beards-in-metal/, he tentatively plans to shave the whole thing off when he returns home.
“I’d like to raise money for Locks of Love, a charity that makes wigs for cancer patients under 18. Even though they won’t accept a beard hair donation, I’m cutting off and donating my hair and if I can raise enough money through the Beard Team Canada site, I’ll also shave off my beard after the competition and start fresh for 2011,” says Millar. “It’s for a good cause and if we raise enough money, I’ll reveal my chin that has been hiding for the last 3 years. I’m sure you’re all curious to see if I really do have a chin.”
Fans can donate by clicking here http://www.beardteamcanada.org
Protest The Hero’s second full-length, Fortress, was released in January 2008 and debuted in the Billboard Top 200 and entered the same charts in Canada at #1. Fortress also received a Juno nomination in 2009 for Best Rock Record. The band just wrapped up their US headlining tour last week and will be announcing more North American dates shortly.
“Blood Meat,” the first single from Fortress, will be available as a Guitar Hero Download on Xbox Live on July 30. Members of the band recently accepted an award for “Most Viral Video” at the Revolver Golden God Awards in Los Angeles, CA. The video is currently on the band’s MySpace page.
Protest The Hero is vocalist Rody Walker, bassist /vocalist/lyricist Arif Mirabdolbaghi, vocalist/guitarist Tim Millar, guitarist Luke Hoskin, and drummer Moe Carlson.
“PTH are phenomenally talented, intense, and heady – this is a record that requires repeated listens.” – DECIBEL
“Post-prog, shred-tastic, metal and hardcore-influenced amazingness. One of the most important records of 2008 so far. “ – METALSUCKS.NET
“… like Metallica and Iron Maiden before them, they’re less interested in showing off than they are in squeezing their instrumental virtuosity and structural complexity into songs that move at the speed of pop. – REVOLVER

THE LEMONHEADS To Headline WBOS EarthFest,
Announce US Headlining Tour
New Album VARSHONS Due Out June 23 on The End Records
Gibby Haynes Produced Collection Features Covers of Songs by Gram Parsons, Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt, G.G. Allin, Wire, July, and More
(April 27, 2009) – THE LEMONHEADS today announce a headlining tour of the US in support of VARSHONS, their upcoming covers album out on The End Records on June 23.
The Lemonheads are also set to headline Boston’s 16th Annual Radio 92.9 EarthFest on Saturday, May 30. The tour begins the following week on June 8 in San Diego and includes a two-night stand at Chicago’s Abbey Pub before wrapping up June 27 in Washington, DC.
VARSHONS was both inspired by and produced by Gibby Haynes, ringmaster of the Butthole Surfers, who for years made mix tapes for his longtime friend Evan. The collection is filled with strange bedfellows - from G.G. Allin to Texas troubadour Townes Van Zandt and garage rockers The Green Fuz. The Lemonheads make each track their own, with help from actress Liv Tyler, singing back up on Leonard Cohen’s “Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye,” and Kate Moss, who sings over the dance groove of Arling & Cameron’s “Dirty Robot.” Also featured on lead guitar and backing vocals throughout most of the album is John Perry, on loan from The Only Ones.
VARSHONS unearths a pair of psychedelic treasures with “Yesterlove” – a song recorded in 1969 by the group Sam Gopal featuring future Motorhead bassist Lemmy Kilmister – and “Dandelion Seeds” from July, record collector’s Registered Landmark Band. For “Layin’ Up With Linda,” the band filters Allin’s cold-blooded tale through the swaggering country-honk of The Stones’ “Dead Flowers.”
Filled with obscure nuggets, the tracks on VARSHONS cut a wide swath, jumping from early British psychedelic to Dutch electronica and like all good mix tapes, you never know what is coming next.

THE NUMBER 12 LOOKS LIKE YOU
Add Dates, Lose Singer, Get Adopted by Denny’s
(April 9, 2009) – THE NUMBER 12 LOOKS LIKE YOU has added select headlining dates surrounding the upcoming ‘Heads Will Roll’ tour with Protest The Hero, Misery Signals and Scale The Summit. The band sets off for Fort Wayne Indiana next week for the first of three headlining shows leading up to the HWR tour kickoff in Denver. A headlining tour of Canada will be announced shortly. See all dates below.
The Number 12 released their fourth full-length, Worse Than Alone, on Eyeball Records last month and just returned home from their spring headlining run that was their first without singer Justin Pedrick. The band issued the following statement:
“5 blown trailer tires, devious strippers, body slams, pneumonia, ravaged equipment, psychedelics, and a lost singer are only some of the things that we encountered on this past tour. It was an incredible time! We would like to thank those who came out to the shows and shared these unpredictable moments.”
“We’ve seen a number of posts and comments wondering about Justin, and we are sad to announce that Justin is no longer with us due to personal issues related to depression and anxiety. It is unfortunate that he will not be part of what’s to come, but his health comes first and we wish him the best of luck. The #12 has always maintained a positive outlook, one that feeds off the support of our fans. We will continue playing and writing music for the wonderful fan base we have. Those of you that saw us on this last tour can vouch that we still killed it on stage like always. This will only get better as we tighten the loose ends. Come sing along as we tear it up with Protest The Hero and beyond. The Canadian border patrol better double check us because we are looking to rock and party harder than ever! See you all soon.” #12
The Number 12 has also been chosen as one of Denny’s “Adopt-A-Band” acts for the spring. The band will be appearing at select Denny’s restaurants after shows along the Heads Will Roll tour to hang with fans and eat some food. Parties will be announced soon and more details about the promotion can be found here: www.dennysallnighter.com.
The Number 12 Looks Like You is: Jesse Korman (vocals), Alexis Pareja (guitar), Chris Russell-Waker (bass), and Jon Karel (drums).
