Vagrant Records Teams Up With Talenthouse To Announce Far Video Contest
Create A Video For Far’s New Single, “Deafening,” and Win $1000
Los Angeles, CA – (May 24, 2010) – Vagrant Records and www.Talenthouse.com have collaborated exclusively with Far to open a world wide search for aspiring filmmakers to create their own music video for “Deafening,” the first single from Far’s new album, At Night We Live, which arrives in stores tomorrow, May 25.
To vie for this opportunity, filmmakers are asked to submit their videos to www.talenthouse.com by Monday, June 28. After which public voting will take place, starting at 10 a.m. PST, Tuesday, June 29 and will remain open until 10 a.m. PST, Thursday, July 1.
On completion of the voting period, Far will be presented with the top voted submissions (chosen by the public) and will pick a filmmaker from that pool. The selected filmmaker will not only have their video premiered on the band’s website but they will also receive $1,000. As a bonus, the top 10 voted on submissions will receive an autographed CD of Far’s new album At Night we Live.
Originally from Sacramento, California, Far are considered one of the most influential bands of the late 90’s. Though the band split in 1998, Far released four albums in their time together, including the seminal Water & Solutions and Tin Cans With Strings To You (Epic/Immortal). The band reunited at the end of 2008 for a few one-off shows to test the waters of a possible reunion. Shortly afterward, they were shocked to find that their just-for-fun cover of Ginuwine’s “Pony” had made it onto the airwaves. The excitement from the reaction to the band making music together again planted the seeds for At Night We Live. The band, now scattered throughout California, traded ideas and demos for a few months before getting together at guitarist and producer Shaun Lopez’s own studio in Los Angeles to record. At Night We Live is the band’s first new music in over a decade and has been described by Alternative Press as “….intoxicating and uplifting…a magnificent record that while fresh and exciting, could only be the work of Far.”
Far is Jonah Matranga (vocals, guitar), Shaun Lopez (guitar), John Gutenberger (bass), and Chris Robyn (drums).

Murder By Death have just revealed the second video off their recently released album, Good Morning, Magpie (04/10, Vagrant). The video for “White Noise” was created by the Australian animator/design team of MaricorMaricar (Architecture in Helsinki, The Living End) and is based on a treatment by the band’s cellist, Sarah Balliet, and explores the “ominous undercurrent” of the song.
Los Angeles, CA – (May 16, 2010) – CITY AND COLOUR will be appearing on NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly next Wednesday, May 26, but fans can hear a brand new song that features City and Colour’s Dallas Green tonight on the season finale of One Tree Hill.
One Tree Hill’s creator/producer Mark Schwahn recently assembled a group of musicians under the name Nashville Skyline to collaborate on a song for the CW’s show’s season finale. The resulting song, “Carry You Home,” will be featured in tonight’s climactic episode, entitled “Almost Everything I Wish I’d Said the last Time I Saw You…”
Fans can check out Mark Schwahn’s blog, http://cwtv.com/thecw/nashville-skyline, to read about the songs genesis and watch behind-the-scenes video footage from the studio. The single is being released exclusively through iTunes with all profits going to charity.
City and Colour, the solo-project of Alexisonfire’s Dallas Green, will be taping Last Call with Carson Daly in Los Angeles the day after Alexisonfire’s current US headline tour wraps on Sunday in Worcester, MA.

Los Angeles, CA (March 29, 2010) – Far is offering their fans an exclusive opportunity to hear “Deafening,” the lead track from the band’s upcoming full-length, At Night We Live, which will be released May 25, 2010 on Vagrant.
Starting today, fans that enter their email address to receive updates from Far through their official website will be the first to hear the debut track – almost two months before the album is released.
“Deafening” has all the defining elements of Far’s sound – a soaring chorus, ear-splitting riffs, huge hooks and thought-provoking lyrics. Though the band (Jonah Matranga – vocals/guitar, Shaun Lopez – guitar, John Gutenberger – bass, and Chris Robyn – drummer) may have been gone for over a decade, their popularity has steadily increased as a new wave of listeners have discovered their music.

New Far Album: At Night We Live
Release Date: May 18, 2010
Los Angeles, CA – (February 10, 2010) – Far announce a May 18 release date for their fifth full-length and Vagrant debut At Night We Live. The album was produced by guitarist Shaun Lopez at his own Airport Studio in Southern California. It’s the band’s first release in over a decade.
“I’ve got ten years of interviews saying this would never happen, that Far would never play together, let alone make a record, so I really have no idea what will happen from here on out,’ comments singer Jonah Matranga. “All I know is that I’m really proud of the record, and I think it stands with anything we’ve made. Really, that’s all I cared about as we were making it.”
“I think every record we had made in the past, there was always some sort of outside pressure,” said Lopez. “Either it was label, or us trying to “make it happen”. This writing and recording process was great, since there wasn’t any of that. The end result is something we are all very proud of.”
“This record has some of our heaviest moments, our prettiest moments, our most epic moments, our weirdest moments — and even with all those twists and turns, I actually think it’s the most cohesive record we’ve ever made,” added Matranga.
Far got their start in Sacramento, California in the early ‘90’s and released four full-length albums before disbanding in 1998, soon after the release of Water & Solutions. That album was considered one of the most influential post-hardcore records ever by Alternative Press and Kerrang! magazines, among others, and remains a touchstone for bands as diverse as blink-182, My Chemical Romance, and Deftones.
Far is: Jonah Matranga – vocals/guitar, Shaun Lopez – guitar, John Gutenberger – bass, Chris Robyn – drummer.
Far live dates:
Feb 23 – San Francisco, CA @ Bottom of the Hill (Noisepop Festival)
Mar 25 – San Diego, CA @ North Hall (SD Indie Fest)

(January 19, 2010) – Bloomington, Indiana’s MURDER BY DEATH will release their fifth full-length studio album, Good Morning, Magpie, on April 6, 2010 on Vagrant Records. The quartet self-produced the album which was recorded at Bloomington-based Farm Fresh Studios and the resulting ten tracks were mixed by Trina Shoemaker.
“Good Morning, Magpie is some of the darkest and brightest material we have ever written,” commented Adam Turla, MBD’s singer, songwriter and guitarist. “While it’s not a concept album, it embodies the struggle between light and dark that has defined our previous work.”
Turla wrote most of the new material during two weeks he spent alone deep in the woods of Appalachia with just “a tent, a fishing pole, a guitar, and a lot of paper.”
Good Morning, Magpie follows 2008’s Red of Tooth and Claw which was universally acclaimed for it’s cinematic storytelling and as Paste Magazine noted of their performance on record – “every one of them a swirling, unapologetic tours-de-force.” Performing Songwriter declared the album “a more personal, impactful and engaging record than the stellar offerings they’ve released thus far… MBD kick up a storm of dirty, killer American rock” and The Tripwire summed it up by saying, “label it whatever you want, isn’t “great” just great?”
A US tour is being planned and dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
Murder By Death is: Adam Turla- vocals, guitars, keys, Sarah Balliet- cello and keys, Matt Armstrong- bass and noises, and Dagan Thogerson- drums and percussion.
Los Angeles, CA (December 17, 2009) – CITY AND COLOUR, the solo project of Juno Award-winning, Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green, announces the January 12 release of Live at The Verge digital single. The single features City and Colour performing “Forgive Me” from Bring Me Your Love (02/08, Vagrant/Dine Alone) and a solo acoustic cover of Alexisonfire’s “Boiled Frogs.” Green also serves as Alexisonfire’s guitarist and vocalist. The tracks can be purchased together or separately and were recorded in February 2008 for Canada’s XM satellite radio show, Live at The Verge.
City and Colour will be embarking on a US headlining tour beginning January 7, in Washington, DC at the 9:30 Club. Several dates on the tour have already sold out, including the final stop in Los Angeles at the Henry Fonda Theatre on January 23. City and Colour’s last headlining US tour, in January ’09, was entirely sold out – Including a two-night stand at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom. Prior to that, in October 2008, City and Colour supported Tegan and Sara on their American national tour.
City and Colour is touring in support of Bring Me Your Love. Released in February 2008, it was selected by iTunes as one of the “Best Albums of 2008” and by MySpace as one of “50 Albums You Should Know in 2008.”
These rare US dates will give fans an opportunity to hear a few new City and Colour songs as well as tracks from Sometimes (City and Colour’s debut album) and Bring Me Your Love which Billboard called “warm and more intimate” and Alternative Press praised for “picture-perfect imagery and a brutal honesty that throws back to a time when talent meant skills, not studio trickeries… an inspiring album.”
City and Colour on tour:
Thu. Jan 07 – Washington, DC @ 9:30 Club (GA)
Fri. Jan 08 – New York, NY @ Webster Hall (GA) – SOLD OUT
Sun. Jan 10 – Somerville, MA @ Somerville Theatre (reserved seating)

MURDER BY DEATH Begin Work On New Album
Follow up to 2008’s Red of Tooth and Claw Due Out Spring 2010
Los Angeles, CA (November 16, 2009) – Bloomington, Indiana quartet MURDER BY DEATH will begin recording their fifth full-length studio album in December at Bloomington-based Farm Fresh Studios. The forthcoming as-yet-untitled disc will be mixed by Trina Shoemaker (who produced 2008’s Red of Tooth and Claw, Vagrant) and is scheduled for release next spring.
Adam Turla, MBD’s singer, songwriter, and guitarist wrote most of the new material during two weeks he spent alone deep in the woods of Appalachia. “With this record, we wanted to write a more versatile and manic album,” said Turla. “We are going for doomier, more beautiful, even a few songs in major keys (rare for us)… the whole kit-and-caboodle.”
Murder By Death recently returned from a national tour as main support for Gaslight Anthem and also released an instrumental soundtrack to accompany the science-fiction book, Finch, by author Jeff VanderMeer. This past summer the band learned that director Quentin Tarantino was a fan when he hand-picked “Comin’ Home” (from Red of Tooth and Claw) for the Inglorious Basterds movie trailer.
Released in March 2008, Red of Tooth and Claw was universally acclaimed for it’s cinematic storytelling and as Paste Magazine noted of their performance on record – “every one of them a swirling, unapologetic tours-de-force.” Performing Songwriter declared the album “a more personal, impactful and engaging record than the stellar offerings they’ve released thus far… MBD kick up a storm of dirty, killer American rock” and The Tripwire summed it up by saying, “label it whatever you want, isn’t “great” just great?”
Murder By Death is: Adam Turla – vocals, guitar, Sarah Balliet – cello, keys, Matt Armstrong – bass, and Dagan Thogerson – drums.
