PLACEBO CELEBRATE AS ‘BATTLE’ RIDES HIGH ACROSS THE WORLD

Placebo take European Billboard Chart By Storm in at No.1
Number 1 In 9 Countries and Top 5 In 19
Career best US and Japan Chart Positions

Placebo have stormed the charts across Europe and in major territories worldwide with the release of their latest record Battle for the Sun.

The album entered the charts at number one in nine countries – including a first ever number one in Germany – and top fives in a nineteen countries.

Significantly though, the band have had their first ever Billboard Top 100 placing in the US at No.51, as the album shifted a record number of units in North America, selling more in their first week than the last album, Meds, sold in its first two weeks of release.

The success comes after an innovative pre-release and fan-driven digital campaign. The highlights of which saw the band offer the fanbase free track downloads and culminated in the world wide album premiere which focused on giving over 150,000 fans access to the new record before release through the bands website Placeboworld.co.uk, and was a major factor in the album not leaking upfront of release.

The result speaks for itself, with Battle for the Sun out-performing all previous chart positions in Placebo’s 13-year history.

And, to make the result even sweeter, the record is released by the band themselves, with Vagrant chosen to be their US (and Canadian) partners for structured campaign architecture and marketing for the new record across the US.

Placebo also this week announced they will headline the iTunes Festival in London, UK, on July 14th.  This, along with 25 European festival appearances this summer and a huge arena tour locked in for later in the year further proves another giant step forwards in the bands career, culminating in The O2 Arena in London in December
